Four generations of blacksmiths
Our story starts in 1935, when Carl Edlund’s great-grandfather opened a forging shop in Älta, Sweden. Later Carl’s father, Micke Edlund, took over and made the family name known all around the world. Today Carl carries the legacy on from Huskvarna, Sweden, building replica motorcycle frames the way his father did: with cast parts from our own molds and frames welded up on our own jigs. Our promise is simple: better than the original.
The beginning: Mickes Ramar
Micke Edlund began building frames in the early 1980s. Back then the company was called “Mickes Ramar” and was located in Jönköping. The frames quickly earned a reputation for excellent quality, and many bikers considered the cast parts to be world class. Demand came from all over the world, and even though Micke sold 400 frames a year, Sweden was too small. He moved to Los Angeles to meet the market where it was. Bike frames were his main business, but he also built some drag-race frames.
Everything with an engine
Carl Edlund, Micke’s son, was introduced to the shop at an early age. “I used to run around my dad’s workshop when I was a kid. I did my first weld when I was about four or five years old. It might not have been the best looking one.” The biker bug got Carl early and has never let go. He has been building bike frames since he was 14 and enjoys driving almost anything with an engine. When it was time to choose a name, the answer was easy: “There are many customers who have contacted us from all over the world, so ‘Frames’ became the natural choice.”
Original molds
Carl uses his dad’s old frame jigs and the original molds. Micke explains how they came to be: “I thought it was possible to make better castings than the original, so I made my own molds in the late eighties. The price tag for that project was about 70,000 dollars back then. But they turned out really good. They are still here, and they are the ones Carl uses today, so they have really paid off.”
Made in Sweden
Every Edlund Frames casting is poured in molds that we own, cast in Sweden at Holsbyverken in Vetlanda. The frames themselves are built in Sweden, with our own machines and jigs. Casting is the only step we do not do in-house.
Edlund Frames is based in Huskvarna, Sweden. We ship worldwide, and shipping is free.
